Frequently asked questions.

Do I have to ride at my appointment?

For the most part, yes, it is important to have you ride at your appointment. There are a few exceptions to this rule, some being that your horse is not trained yet or is still recovering from an injury. If this are the case, we can make an exception. It is important for you to ride to ensure that both you and your horse are comfortable in the saddle in all gaits.

How often should I have my horse fitted?

The industry standard is to have your horse checked every 6 months. With us living in a climate that have a high variance in temperature, your horse’s body changes to that. It is good to check the fit of your saddle throughout the seasons. Small adjustments can be made to accommodate for the changes in your horse’s body.

How often should I have my saddle re-flocked

It is recommended to have your saddle re-flocked every two years. If you notice your flocking starting to get lumpy or hard, it may be time for a full re-flock! If it is before two years but you notice changes in it, we can assess it and do a top-up if needed.

I’ve always ridden in this saddle, why should I have it checked?

It is better to be proactive than reactive with saddle fit. The best-case scenario is that I come out and your saddle fits perfectly! There is nothing better than being able to tack up and know that your horse is happy and comfortable in the saddle you are riding in.

Are you qualified to check my horse’s saddle fit?

Yes, I am trained and qualified through the International Academy of Saddle Fitters which is a LANTA Accredited organization that specializes in Saddle Fit. I received my qualification after studying online, in person in the UK, and by doing an externship. I am continually learning and broadening my knowledge of horses and saddles.

Do you only fit English Saddles?

No, I am happy to take a look at your western saddle! Please note however, most english saddles can be adjusted while western saddles cannot. I am more than happy to assess your current saddle but should we come to the conclusion it does not fit, we will need to look to get a new one. My formal training is in English saddles, but I continue to grow my education for western saddle fitting through speaking with western saddle makers, trainers, and fitters.

Where do you take appointments?

I live in the Chicagoland area which is where my main appointments are located. I can travel to other areas if given enough appointments, please reach out if you are interested!
